Mr. Lawrence J. McKeown
, 93, passed away on Sunday April 25, 2010 in the Neptune Rehabilitation & Care Center.
Mr. McKeown was born and raised in West Nanticoke, PA. He has lived in North Arlington since 1949.
Larry owned and operated the Insurance business for the Bixler & McKeown Agency in Kearny from 1967 until 1985. Before that he was an insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life. He was the local agent in Kearny for 19 years. As a young man out of high school, he was a supervisor for Polllocks in Kearny. Pollocks manufactured the timing devices for bombs used during the war.
He served as a borough councilman in North Arlington from 1960 through 1964. As a member of North Arlington Elks B.P.O.E. # 1992 he served as the Exalted Ruler in 1992 and also served as Secretary/Treasure for a decade.
Mr. McKeown is survived by his sons Lawrence “Skip” and his wife Jean and Dennis and his wife Maureen. He was the grandfather of Kyle Young, Kelly Kileah, Kasey, Kory, Corrine and Keaton. He was the great-grandfather of Linkin Troy Young and Colin and Carrick Montigel. He was pre-deceased by his wife Dorothy, brother Edward, and sister Ruth Stortz.
