Dr. Lawrence H.N. Lee, 84, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 10:20 a.m., Friday, March 9, 2007, in his home. Dr. Lee was born in 1923 in Shang Hai, China, and had lived in South Bend since 1950, coming from Minnesota. He was an innovative brilliant researcher, with a quick mind and a strong will. His contributions to Science and the University of Notre Dame were significant and numerous spanning 43 years. The applications of his work touched the lives of many involved in research design and in the manufacturing of metals. In December, 1948, he married Lydia S. Lee, who survives. Also surviving are his son, Lynn L. (Grayson) Lee of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Christopher L. Lee of Seattle, WA, Lauren E. Lee of St. George, UT, and Abigail M. Lee of Cincinnati, OH; one brother, Howard (Julia) H.W. Lee of Portland, OR; and by his best companion, his yellow lab, Belle. Preceding him in death were his daughter, Nora M. Lee, and his brother.
