LaVerne Oscar Coonrod, of Camden, passed away at his home, on July 24, 2012, with his family at his side, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

LaVerne was born, the son of Oscar (Rock) and Marian Trudell Coonrod, on September 14, 1942, at the family homestead on Elpis Road in what at the time was considered McConnellsville, NY.

He lived all of his life on Elpis Road, many of those years in the family homestead.

LaVerne was a self-employed logger for many years and prior to that, worked at Scott Trucking as a driver as well as a mechanic. His true passion in life however, was spending time in the woods, whether he was working or hunting. He was able in later years to enjoy time with his sons in Canada on several successful bear hunts.

LaVerne leaves his wife, Molly; two sons and a daughter in law, LaVerne Coonrod Jr., and Brad (April) Coonrod, all of Camden; three daughters and their spouses, Wanda Everspaugh (Greg Megerell), Tammy (Rick) Dixon , all of Camden, and Hilary (Matt) Barlarley of Bridgeport. He also leaves two stepdaughters, Annette (Ray) Wade and Kimberly Turk (Jeff Watkins), as well as many grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was also the beloved brother to three sisters, Mildred (Peter) Evans of Chester, ME., Kathleen (Harold) Babcock, and Sally (Ray) Johnston, all of Camden.

LaVerne was predeceased by a precious infant daughter, Wendy in 1964, his father, Rock Coonrod in 1983, and his mother, Marian in August 2011,

He will be sadly missed by many good friends and a loving family.

At LaVerne’s request, there will be no services. He will be cremated and his ashes spread on the homestead he dearly loved.

He was our hero and a warrior to the end.

To honor LaVerne, in a manner that he would appreciate; there will be an open house to celebrate his life, at his sister Sally’s home on Elpis Road in Camden, on August 4, 2012, at 1:00 PM. Friends and family are encouraged to come and share their memories and stories of LaVerne’s life.
