Laverne F. Smith
Newark – Laverne Frey Smith, 91 of Bryant Avenue died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at Via Health of Wayne-Newark Campus.
Mr. Smith was born the son of William and Bessie Frey Smith in Marion, New York on September 29, 1910. He graduated from Newark High School in the Class of 1929. Mr. Smith retired from Fold-Pak in 1974 after working there for 44 years. When he retired he worked on the assembly line as a box catcher. Mr. Smith was a member of the Arcadia Reformed Church.
He will be remembered for being a “neighbor” to far more than the people on his street. His steady regimented lifestyle got him through more than ninety years of living.
Mr. Smith is survived by two sisters-in-law Emma Hunter of Illinois and Gwendolyn Blanchard of Kentucky; brother-in-law Ross Blanchard of Ashville, NY; many nieces, nephews and cousins including a special niece Mary (Ronald) Kellner; Godchild Lise Keller Kiesznoski; many good friends. Mr. Smith was befriended by the Amrose and Cimineri Families both of Lyons.
Mr. Smith was predeceased by his loving wife Gertrude “Trudy” Smith in 1987.
