LaVeeta Beulah Reed Knight, 85, of Melrose NM, went home to be with the Lord on, Monday, November 6, 2017, at Clovis Healthcare and Rehab. She was born in Forest Hill, TX, to Everett and Annie Pearl Bowen, on July 5, 1932. She graduated at Hamlin High School. She went to college and then met Kenneth Reed and was married in Carlsbad on January 6, 1950. They had two daughters, Melinda and Deanna, they were the love of their lives. They moved to Melrose in 1963. LaVeeta returned to school at ENMU to obtain her teaching degree. She taught at Melrose Schools for 30 years, impacting many lives. She enjoyed following her students as they succeeded in life. Of these students, were her daughter and many grandchildren.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Melrose. She loved her Lord, and was active in Sunday school, Awanas and any other activity going on at the church. She loved to cook and provide meals for church, family and friends. After losing her beloved husband, Kenneth in 1995, she found love again and married Junius (JE) Knight on January 7, 2001. LaVeeta enjoyed sewing, dancing, and was an active member of the County Extension Club. Her true love was her family, which included holidays, watching her grandkids and great-grandkids, in any activity that they participated in. She was a very loved member of the Melrose community and will be greatly missed by everyone that she came in contact with.
LeVeeta is survived by her daughter, Deanna and Jim Hogg, Clovis NM; son-in-law and wife, Bill and Barbara Hollaway, Clovis NM; step-daughters: Rhonda and Tom Hartford, Tucson AZ, Marge and Robert Holland, Springerville AZ, Terri and Bill Yparrea, Lubbock TX; grandchildren: Dedra and Daryl Martin, Saphronia Hollaway, D’Shay and Jay Henson, Shantell and Miguel Gutierrez, Landon and Samantha Hogg, Wesley Tag and Dustie Hollaway; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren; brother, Robert and Bobbie Nell Bowen; sister-in-law, Sandy Bowen; and many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, cousins and many friends. LaVeeta is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jean Schuester; brother, Loyd Bowen; husbands, Kenneth Reed and JE Knight; daughter, Melinda Hollaway; and grandson, Casey Hollaway.
