Laura Pauline Herwehe, the daughter of Earnest and Anna Pearl (Quick) Kain, was born July 27, 1930, in Percy, Iowa. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1948 and then attended one term at Drake University. She was united in marriage with Rolland Earl Herwehe on December 30, 1948, in Prairie City.  Laura worked as a housewares merchandiser for Coast to Coast for 30 years, retiring in 1995.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she had served as a Worthy Matron. She enjoyed playing piano, doing word searches, and taking care of others.

Laura is survived by her children, Rickie Herwehe and Renee (Bill) Brown, both of Newton; her grandchildren: Lonnie (Jera) Herwehe of Prairie City, Jay Herwehe of Indianola, Dusty (Colleen) Herwehe of Prairie City, Shane (Pamela) Vigil of Newton, and Cody Vigil of Newton; step-grandchildren, Eric Brown of Fargo, ND and Tracey Brown of Newton; several great-grandchildren; her sister, Marlene (Marvin) McReynolds; her sisters-in-law, Helen Kain, Marcella Kain, and Nona Kain (Bob Sheeler); and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rolland; siblings, Clyde (Donna) Kain, Cloman Kain, John Kain, Darlene (Bill) King, Bernard Kain, and her twin sister, Colleen (Floyd) Murphy; step-granddaughter, Kimberly Brown; and special friend, Harold Phillips.
