Laura Lack, 82, of Moberly passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020. She was born July 18, 1938 in Boone County to Alfred and Laura (Calvert) Whitmarsh.
She is survived by three children; Rhonda Sumpter, Brenda Weast and her husband Kenneth all of Overland Park, KS, and Thurion D Lack and his wife Lyndsay of Moberly, a brother Larry Whitmarsh and his wife Rosemary of Columbia, two sisters; Beverly Bennett and her husband Donnie of Columbia, and Norma Stocker and her husband Larry of Sturgeon, six grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Linda, four brothers and two sisters.
Laura Yvonne Lack was the fourth of ten children of Laura Belle Calvert and Alred Whitmarsh. Laura was known to her family as “Vonnie”. She, along with her siblings, helped their parents with various chores but she especially enjoyed cooking with her mother.
Laura had a variety of jobs from restaurants, factories, to housekeeping. She had a passion for gardening and would regularly can what she grew and was always generous with the fruits of her labor. She especially loved baking just about any pie you could ask for and she rarely needed recipes.
After giving her life to Christ she devoted her time to regular Church attendance. Bible studies, Sunday School, teaching, and helping in the nursery.
Laura loved family dinners which always ended in card games that would often go on late into the evenings. Her friends were more like an extended family and would regularly volunteer her time to visit and support them whenever they needed it.
Coffee was her drink of choice. If you would ask if she would like a cup, she would immediately perk up, smile, and say, “coffee?”.
We will think of her and miss her every day.
