Laura Johnson, 92, of Fortville, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 in Greenfield.  She was born July 11, 1925 in Gaston, IN to the late Russel E. and Mary Lee (West) Johnson.  Laura graduated from Gaston High School in 1943, and married her high school sweetheart, Ronald E. Johnson on August 12, 1943 before he shipped off to serve in the Pacific during WWII.

Laura was a certified accountant and office manager of the former Honda West, now Honda of Fishers. She often saw a million dollars’ worth of deals cross her desk in a month and balanced the books with nothing more than a red and black pencil and an old adding machine. She even learned computer languages and programs into her 70’s. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, where she was a past President and the Indiana Pacers Booster Club and a 34-year Pacers season ticket holder. Her passion for caring for people, arguing referee’s calls during sporting events, and traveling wherever anyone would go with her, made her a pioneering woman of her time.

She is survived by son, Duane “DJ” Johnson of Tampa, FL; granddaughter, Jennifer (Dan) Vonderwell of Cheney, WA; brother, Donal Johnson of Gaston, IN; niece, Joanne Troutner of Lafayette, IN; two great-grandsons, Joshua and Andrew Vonderwell of Cheney, WA; and good friends, Beth Higgins of Greenfield and Nikki Pifer of Fortville. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Rowena Carol Sachs; sister Carolyn Lee Johnson and brother, Forrest E. Johnson; and daughter-in-law Laurie(Macdonald) Johnson.
