Larry R. Sellers, 85, died Monday, March 8, 2021 at UnityPoint Lutheran Hospital from respiratory failure due to Covid-19 pneumonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at Iles Grandview Park Chapel.
Larry was born July 18, 1935 in Des Moines to George and Harriet (Tingle) Sellers. He was a 1954 graduate of East High School. He worked for over 37 years at SuperValu Warehouse retiring in 1997. In 2000, he joined Adams Elementary School as a Special Ed Associate, retiring in 2007.
He was a long-time member of Acanthus Masonic Lodge and the Des Moines Consistory. Larry devoted over 60 years to volunteering at Grandview Little League, serving as a coach, officer and mentor for four generations of players. He proudly helped develop Grandview Girls Softball and also eagerly shared his expertise with surrounding ball leagues.
He was a relentless St. Louis Cardinal fan. As much as he loved sports, his favorite games to watch were those of his family.
Larry had an impact on everyone he touched. Once he knew you, he remembered you forever.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 32 years, Janice of Pleasant Hill; five children, Marty (Mary) Sellers, Matt (Denise) Sellers, Susan Butz, John (Catharine) Sellers and Mark Rife; step-children, Amy (Chad) Prenosil, Jennifer Harrison and Andrew Harrison; 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; and brothers, Jerry (Sharon) and Donald Sellers. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Sherry Sellers.
