Freeport – Larry R. Wieck, 77 of Freeport died on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at home with his family by his side. He was born on August 27, 1943, in Freeport, a son of Glen and Gladys (Scheider) Wieck. He graduated in 1961 from Orangeville High School where he participated in all sports. Larry married his high school sweetheart Pamella (Koehner) Wieck on October 5, 1963, in Freeport.

He was employed by Honeywell/Micro Switch in the drafting department, then he was promoted to the Engineering Department for a total of 36 years until he retired in November of 2001. He owned and operated a tax service with his wife in Orangeville prior to that for 5 years. In his earlier years he enjoyed coaching the little league team ‘red caps’ and was also a referee for Micro Switch basketball leagues and other area games. He enjoyed participating in basketball, volleyball, slow pitch, bowling, and golf for Honeywell.

Larry was a volunteer fireman in Orangeville for 15 years as well as in the Odd Fellows for 15 years. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Freeport where he served on many committees. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He had a hole in one at Lake Carroll Golf Course on August 16, 2005.

Larry really enjoyed the Tuesday traveling golf league where he would get a logo golf ball from every course he played for his collection, including logo balls from Hawaiian course’s where he and Pam would visit. Larry never missed any of his kids or grand-kid’s extracurricular activities. Also, one of his favorite daily past-times was recording the days weather, rain fall and snow fall amounts via the Co Co Rahs (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network).

Larry loved and cherished his 4 grandchildren and 1 step granddaughter. He was the strong silent type, more of a doer then a talker, with a great sense of humor, who loved taking care of his family, and helping friends and neighbors.

Larry leaves behind his family and friends who cherish his memory and will celebrate his life. He is survived by his wife Pam, daughter Vonda (Kelly) Olson of Poy Sippi, Wi; son Chad (Lesa) Wieck of Byron; granddaughters: Kortnie Christen of Milwaukee, WI, Jenna & Jessica Wieck and grandson Colton Wieck of Byron; step granddaughter Ashley Olson of Apple River.
