It is with deep regret the family of Larry John Klein announce his passing on January 29, 2022.

Larry was born September 7, 1944, to John B. and Lucy (Kuiper) Klein. Brothers William and Louie welcomed their new little brother and together the three boys shared a love of outdoor activities. Larry’s parents and brothers have predeceased him. Larry was a lifelong resident of this area, his school years were spent in Portage, followed by some college at WMU and 29 years as an employee of UpJohn/Pharmacia. Larry’s retirement years were spent ‘on the farm’, where there was never a shortage of projects and activities.

Larry joined the United States Army in 1966, eventually earning an honorable discharge as an E-1, with a National Defense Service Medal.

In 1976 Larry and Loretta “Letty” Kusack married and were soon blessed with a son, David (Kelly) Klein, all who survive. Also surviving is daughter Dena Klein of Kalamazoo. In 2014 the Klein family was joined by grandson Louie, the apple of Larry’s eye, and his everything. The two enjoyed gator rides on the property, reading in grandpa’s chair and just general grandpa/grandson stuff. Larry loved being a grandpa, as the sign in the living room says: Grandpa (n) Dad Without Rules.

Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, and putzing around the property. Wednesdays were known as ‘compound days’ where he, son Dave and good friend Ted McFarlen would ‘work’ on keeping up the many farm vehicles and other maintenance, but everyone really knows it was much more about lunch at the Richland Pub or Richland Lanes. Those memories will remain precious for Dave and Ted. Also remembered are special friends Aaron Sherk, always willing to share an experience or story with Mr. Klein, and Paul Stofer, long time family friend of Larry and his brothers.
