Larry G. Pennell, 73, of South Jacksonville, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 28, 1937, in Jacksonville, the son of Donald and Lela Murray Pennell. He married Mary Louise “Peg” Kindred on Aug. 18, 1956, and she preceded him in death on July 9, 2002.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters, Jim Pennell, Laurie (Mark) Lawson and Brad Pennell, all of Jacksonville, and Lisa (Tim) Smith of Evansville, IN; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Jed) DeWitt, Cody Lawson (friend Ashley Miller), Justin Lawson, Trevor Lawson, Wes Joseph, Jennafer Pennell, Natalie Sanders, Luke Smith and Lance Smith; two great-grandchildren, Evan & Hailey DeWitt; three brothers, James Pennell and Reggie (Shelby) Pennell, both of Jacksonville, and Danny (Jan) Pennell of Roscoe.

He is also survived by special friend Mary Green of Jacksonville, and former daughter-in-law Ramona (David) Joseph of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Michelle French; and one brother, Donald Pennell.

Mr. Pennell was a 1955 graduate of Jacksonville High School. He then attended Illinois College. Early in life he worked as a driver for 7-Up. He then became an agent for Prudential Insurance, working for over 40 years in the Jacksonville area. He was especially proud of the relationships he built in the Winchester community. Following his retirement, he established Pennell Financial Services. He had been a member of the Jacksonville Jaycees, and was a Trustee for the Village of South Jacksonville for many years.

Larry enjoyed golf and had a passion for traveling. He loved his family, and especially loved his grandchildren, who fondly remember him as “Po”.
