Larry E. Swartzell, 70, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, April 20, in his residence.
He was born Feb. 20, 1945, in Fresno, Calif., to the late Max I. and Ruth E. (Drange) Swartzell.
He has four daughters, Rhonda Kay, Laura Larae, Tamara Lynn and Melinda Ann, all of Colorado; brothers Ronald L. (Judy) Swartzell of Olathe, Kan., Dennis D. Swartzell of Fifty-Six, Ark., and Brian K. (Laurie) Swartzell of Elkhart; sisters Joann C. (Ralph) Leiby of Union, Mich., Judy M. (Mike) Beall of Manchester, Tenn., Karen E. (Lavern) Patterson of Union and Marlene K. (Dennis) Meredith of Manchester; fiancée, Angela Eberhart of Mishawaka; and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was self-employed as a tax preparer and ran a cleaning service. He worked for the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
Larry was past-president of the Morning Kiwanis Club. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1970, with the 29th Field Artillery Battalion. He a life-member of DAV Chapter 19 and was the current treasurer.
