Larry DeWitt Smiley passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 from an extended illness.
Larry was born on February 16, 1948 in Denver, Colorado (Go Broncos!) to Melvina May Coberly and DeWitt Ponder. On November 1, 1952 he was extremely blessed to become the adopted son of Elvin W. Smiley and the brother to his new sisters, Linda, Judy and Marilyn. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1966 and married the love of his life, Cheryl Simmons in 1968.
Larry worked very hard as a cement truck driver and retired from Geneva Rock after 35 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time camping, fishing and three-wheeling with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed golfing with his buddies from Geneva. His laugh was highly contagious and he loved a good joke.
His is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his sons, Brandon Bodee (Lauren), Jaime (Angie); his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Xander and Bailey; his sisters, Linda Cook, Judy Shoffner and Marilyn (Lou) Shrope. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; brother, Douglas and Darrell and his grandson, Gage.
He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
