LaMar J. Bloss, 84, of Dowagiac, formerly of Elkhart, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, in the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.

LaMar was born November 26, 1928, in Vistula, Indiana to Joe and Neoda (Sommers) Bloss.

He married Betty Ruth Meert on December 24, 1947, in Elkhart, Indiana. She preceded him in death in 2010.

He was also preceded by his parents; one son, Leonard Bloss; two sisters, Norma Holdread and Loanne Morrison; one brother, Lester Carl Bloss; one sister-in-law, Mary Schaeffer; and three brothers-in-law, Curtis Holdread, Larry Mulder and Jack Meert.

LaMar served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He is a retired cemetery caretaker for the city of Elkhart. He was a member of Vistula Christian Church in Bristol, Indiana. LaMar enjoyed antiques, raising flowers and traveling. He loved to read.

LaMar will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by one daughter, Jane (David) Davis of Edwardsburg; two sons, Charles (Penny) Bloss of Cassopolis, and Tim (Robin) Bloss of Dowagiac; five grandchildren, “L’il” David Davis II of Cassopolis, Joseph Davis of Chicago, Dina Rodriguez of Elkhart, Korey (Jenny) Bloss of Constantine, Amy (fiance’ Josh Bachman) Bloss of Bristol; two great-grandchildren, for now, Anthony Rodriguez, Kaylee Bloss, and a new baby coming in November; one brother, Doyle (Dallis) Bloss of Elkhart; one brother in law, Robert Morrison of Vandalia; five sisters in law, Shirley (Donald) Griffin of Hastings, Nancy Mulder of Otsego, Judy (Jon) Nieuwenhuis of Plainwell, Sally (Lynn) Lukins of Kalamazoo, Marilyn Meert of Plainwell; two brothers in law, Eugene (Kathy) Meert of Plainwell, and Larry (Kathy) Meert of Kalamazoo; and a host of nieces and nephews.
