Kristy Deon Winnie, from Harlingen, TX born on October 31st 1961, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday April 5th 2016. Kristy was born in Paris, Texas and was raised in Maypearl, Texas and later moved to Sulphur Bluff, Texas. She played collegiate basketball at Texas A&M University Commerce, formally known as East Texas State.
Kristy has been an educator, coach, and official for more than 20 years in Rio Grande Valley, more specifically to Raymondville High School, San Benito High School, San Benito Idea Academy. Kristy was named 2015-2016 Coach Of The Year by Rio Grande Valley Charter Schools. She was better known as “Coach Winnie”.
Kristy is preceded in death by her father, Maury Winnie.
She is survived by her mother, Nelda Winnie; sister and brother in law Kim and Mark Bassham of Cooper, Texas, along with many nieces and nephews and an endless number of friends.
Educating and coaching kids was her passion. Coach Winnie was a strong believer in God, never giving up and walking in faith. She will forever live in spirit within all of our hearts and we will miss her.
