Kimberly Lynn Steenhoek, age 61, was taken home to rest on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Kimberly was born on November 19, 1959 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Marvin Leroy Steenhoek (Pella, IA) and Margaret Jean Shafer (Oskaloosa, IA). Kimberly was a decorated soldier who served 26 years with the Army National Guard. She served in 2 tours, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Kimberly has had the responsibility to fuel and guard both the Presidential and Vice Presidential planes, Air Force One and Air Force Two while they were here at the Des Moines International Airport. She has been awarded also for being one of the first female Platoon Sergeants in the state of Iowa. She retired as an E8 Master Sergeant from the Iowa National Guard.
“Kimmy” was happily married to her husband, Robert “Bobby C” her best friend and partner in life of 23 years. She enjoyed traveling with him, visiting grandkids with him, bowling together with friends. They watched and traveled to Nascar races and enjoyed going for road trips on their Harley. Sturgis was always a must each year for their anniversary since that’s where they said their vows. She enjoyed camping and hanging out with friends and family. She was a beautiful wife, dedicated mother and devoted grandmother. She enjoyed watching her grandkids sports all the way from dancing to race quads and dirt bikes, football and tennis. Running track and power lifting to playing in pool tournaments and baseball and softball.
Kimberly was proceeded in death by her mother (Margaret) and her father (Marvin) and a brother that passed at birth (Marvin Jean). She’s also had 2 sisters-in-laws (Patty & Peggy) and a bother-in-law (Bill Cook). Kimberly is survived by her loving husband, Robert “Bob” Cook, her daughter Jessica Fry, her stepchildren, Mike Cook and Samantha Alford. Her 10 grandchildren, Alexis, Logan, Lynndon, Alyssa, Colby, Carter, Kylee, Owen ,Kayleb, Shelby. Her brother, Jeff Steenhoek (Sue) and her sister Brenda Steenhoek (Paul) and her Mother-in-law, Shirley Cook. Brothers and Sister-in-laws, Tom & Nancy Cook and John Cook, many nieces and nephews, Ashlee (Eric), Daniel, Dakota, Claire, Morgan and Bennett and many more extended family and friends that will forever miss her.
