Kim Elaine Pickell, 49, of 30805 Lincoln Drive, died at 6:41 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 2, 2007) at Elkhart General Hospital, after an apparent heart attack.

She was born Oct. 31, 1957, in Fort Wayne to Knight Neuhaus and Corinne Richards. On Oct. 30, 1976, in Fort Wayne, she married Kenneth M. Pickell.

He survives, with a son, Kelly S. Pickell of South Bend; a daughter, Kristy H. (John) Boyd of Elkhart; two grandchildren; two sisters, Chris L. (Randy) Hirschey of New Haven and Erin L. Gomez of Antwerp, Ohio; and her mother, Corinne (Jim) Hart of Florida.

Mrs. Pickell manufactured RV parts for more than 15 years at Ventline in Bristol.

An avid animal lover, Mrs. Pickell and her children volunteered at Pet Refuge, a no-kill animal shelter operated by volunteers in Mishawaka. She served as a foster parent for two dogs, Brewster, an Akita-mix and Quinn, a Chow-mix, who came from Pet Refuge. She spent many hours working at Pet Refuge and during its adoption events.

An outdoors fan, Mrs. Pickell enjoyed camping and hiking, with her favorite destination being the Great Smoky Mountains. She would make occasional trips to Cedar Point Amusement Park in Ohio.
