Passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016, in Kalamazoo. He was born June 14, 1953, in Kalamazoo, MI the son of the late Junius DeGroat and Jeanne (Graine) DeGroat and had lived in Lansing, MI for several years. Graduating with high honors, Kevin received a B.A. Degree from the University of Michigan, with concentrations in English, Political Science, and Social Science.
He also received an M.A. Degree in Professional Writing from Western Michigan University. Kevin was employed by the State of Michigan for 33 years retiring in 2010 as a Regulation Specialist. In his leisure time, Kevin was an avid reader, researcher, and accomplished writer. He was a loving, devoted family member and friend, cherished and respected by many. Kevin had a humble, charitable spirit, was an excellent listener and lived his life with dignity.
Kevin is survived by his mother Jeanne DeGroat; sister, Kim Nichols, and brother-in-law, Robert Nichols, Jr. of Morrisville, NC; sister, Kathy DeGroat-Johnson of Kalamazoo; nephew, William Johnson IV, M.D. of Ann Arbor; and niece, Brianna Chatman of Kalamazoo; aunts and several cousins.
