Kent Edward Mahnesmith, age 44, of Rensselaer passed away October 30, 2011. Kent was born on November 10, 1966 in Garrett, Indiana, the son of the Edward and Ann (Anthony) Mahnesmith. Kent graduated from Angola High School, Angola, Indiana with the Class of 1985. He graduated from the University of Indianapolis in 1989 and received his Law Degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1993. On June 23, 1990 in Angola, Kent married Christine Marie Graft, who survives. Kent and Chris moved to Rensselaer in 1993 after he accepted a position to practice law with the former Dumas & Moriarity Law firm.
They were immediately accepted into their new community and became good and loyal friends to many. Kent became a successful attorney at law specializing in Medicaid Law and became partner of Dumas, Weist, Mahnesmith & Wright in 2000. In 2001, Kent & Chris were blessed with a daughter, Sarah Marie, who he was most proud of. Kent was an enthusiastic and loyal Notre Dame fan. He had many friends that shared in his love of hunting, fishing, snow skiing, motorcycles & four-wheeling.
He was a member of the Elder Law Society of Indiana, Indiana State Bar Association, the Knight of Columbus, Bishop Dwenger Council and he served as attorney for numerous organizations throughout Jasper County. Kent was a generous friend to many, an outstanding attorney who was revered by his peers and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community who loved him.
Kent is survived by his devoted wife, Chris and daughter, Sarah Marie, three sisters, Monica (Lance) Lagemann of LaGrange, IN, Mandy Mahnesmith of Angola, IN & Missy (Larry) Williams of Bloomington, IN, his parents, Edward & Ann Mahnesmith of Angola, IN and numerous nieces and nephews.
