Kenneth W. Rains, 85, of Lafayette, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Franciscan Health East.
He was born June 22, 1936, in New Castle, IN, to the late Robert and Rebecca Main Rains.
Kenneth graduated from Bedford High School Class of 1954 and Indiana University in 1970 with a degree in journalism.
He was a veteran of the Army serving from 1957-1960.
On June 20, 1965, he married Phyllis A. Junkin in Vincennes,IN. and she survives.
Ken worked as a News Reporter for Lafayette Journal & Courier for 21 years retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Brady Lane Church of Christ, where he served as Elder and many other committees. Tippecanoe Civil War Roundtable, Recipient of The Sagamore of the Wabash award in 1991.
Ken was an avid IU fan, enjoyed the time he had with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Surviving are wife, Phyllis A. Rains of Lafayette, IN, daughter, Katharine Hummer (husband Marvin), of Lafayette, son, Jeff Rains (wife Maria) brothers, Larry Rains (wife Judy) of Conway, AR, Phil Rains (wife Carol) of Venice, FL, Gary Rains (Jane), of Indianapolis, Jerry Rains (wife Helen) of Vincennes. Grandchildren, Maddie (Chad) Murphy, Nicholas Rains, Tyler (Brianna) Hummer, Brandon Rains and his great grandchildren Tristan, Isaac, Payton, Piper, William, Skylar, Laleah.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his brother Michael Rains and stepsister Lisa Rains
