Kenneth S. Machado, known to most as “Ken, Kenny, Papa or “Mash”, passed away unexpectedly, but very peacefully, in his sleep on Friday, April 30, 2021.
Ken was born in Fresno, CA and was raised in Alameda, CA. He spent a lot of time as a child swimming in the Sacramento Delta with his many paternal cousins, as well as summers with his maternal side of the family in Fresno.
Ken was a devout Catholic and attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Alameda, where he also served as an altar boy. He was involved in Boy Scouts where his father was his Scoutmaster. He later joined the Navy Reserves serving a few years and received an honorable discharge. He was a proud American and a lifetime member of the Alameda Elk’s Club 1015. He always enjoyed family dinners at the Elk’s Club and partaking in the festivities of the Portuguese breakfasts his father chaired and cooked for many years.
Ken married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Sharon Medaglia in 1958 at St. Joseph’s Basilica in Alameda. They went on the have three children.
After retirement, Ken and Sharon relocated to enjoy life in the beautiful Sierras of Truckee, CA and then later on to Reno, NV where they acquired an abundance of new friends and great neighbors. He became very active in purchasing and restoring hot rod cars and partaking in the events of the “Hot August Nights” car shows. He just loved the outdoors hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed all the years at the various duck clubs with his buddies of old and new.
Ken is preceded in death by his loving parents, Kenneth and Rose Machado and in-laws, Joseph and Alfretta Medaglia, all of Alameda.
He was a beloved and doting husband to Sharon; a loving father to Kathy (Tony), Mike and Tony (Valerie); a beloved grandfather to Kristin (Ted), Angela, Rachele and Collin; and a dear great-grandfather to Madeleine and Wesley. He was a devoted father to his fur-baby Labrador Retriever, Kelly and all of other dogs who have gone before him. May they all be laying at his feet again in Heaven…
