Kenneth R. Royce died on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born to the late Cecil R. Royce and Nettie R. (Wilhelm) Royce of Kingwood, WV. on July 13th, 1937 at Pisgah, WV. He was their second child, first born son.
Kenneth was well known for his talent of fixing things and especially working as a body man and manager for the A K Chevrolet garage for over 20 years, fixing wrecked cars and giving them new life. He loved old cars and restored, along with his son Chip, a 1966 Corvette which was a joint father/son project.
He also worked over the years for Daugherty Coal and Kingwood Mining.
He was a member of the KVFD for over 50 years, served on the Board of Directors, was an officer, and served on different committees. He helped during the Buckwheat Festival serving as Kitchen Chairman at the Community Building for over 20 years.
He loved being with his family — especially playing pool with his grandsons. Family get-togethers were important to him. Summer vacation at Nags Head when his family was young, and continued as the family grew and the grandchildren enjoyed going. He liked to surf fish, and just relax and enjoy the time together.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge; worked with KAMP Central when first formed, and served on their Board of Directors.
He attended First Presbyterian Church and Wesley United Methodist Church of Kingwood, and helped with their projects.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Unger) Royce, and daughter LeeAnne and Joe Walker; and son Kenneth (Chip) and Debbie Royce of Kingwood. Two grandsons — Nick and Alex Royce of Kingwood. Two brothers, Roger Royce (Carol) of Hughesville, Pa., and Cecil Royce (Kay) of Terra Alta, WV. Three sisters: Virginia Emilee Dewitt (Paul), Shirley Herndon of Oakland, Md., and Evva Jane Royce of Kingwood. Nephews: Michael DeWitt, Timothy DeWitt; and Kiley Royce. Nieces: Debbie Spurlock, Val Jean Teagarden, Gena Royce, Linda Graham, Rosetta Riggs, and Cathy Radabaugh
He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Eugene; sister Peggy Rose Nestor; half brother Guy Radabaugh; brother-in-law Eugene Herndon; in-laws Al and Helen Unger.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel; 295 South Price Street; and on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, from 10:00 a.m.
