Kenneth George Bruno passed away much too early at the age of 60 on February 11, 2015. Born in El Paso, Texas, he was the son of Horace and Cecilia Bruno. He is survived by his younger brother Tony Bruno in Scottsdale, Arizona as well as a numerous Uncles, Aunts and cousins throughout the US and Canada. The son of an Arizona native with roots reaching back to Tombstone in the late 1800’s, he considered himself an Arizona native in a state full of transplants.
Raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he had a single minded focus to fly from his early teens and he obtained his pilot’s license by the time he finished his first year at Cochise College in Douglas. He supported himself during that time as a Certified Flight Instructor and he would later transfer to Arizona State University earning a BS in Aeronautical Technology, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He went on to work as a Commercial Pilot for both Zia and Grand Canyon Airlines, Flight Instructor and AZ DOT Aviation Flight Representative. During this busy time, he returned to ASU and earned his MBA.
To his great satisfactiont, he joined America West Airlines in 1989 and worked as both a Boeing 737 Simulator and Ground Instructor before serving as the Supervisor, Boeing 737 Flight Crew Training. The license on his truck said it best: “B737 IP” (instructor pilot). He spent 25 years working for America West and US Airways, finally becoming an employee of American Airlines following the recent merger. He could have done anything in a dozen career fields – but he could not stand to be away from the one industry that to him was intoxicating
