December 1993 – December 2021
The light of our lives, my dear wife and the mother of our children, Keely went home to receive her full healing in the afternoon of Christmas Day 2021. She had only recently celebrated her 28th birthday. Words cannot express the thankfulness we feel at her peace, as well as the sadness and sense of loss that will accompany us now and for the years ahead.
Keely Ammerman was born on December 4, 1993, in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Keely’s early life presented many challenges which she overcame with her fierce spirit. She and her future husband, Shane, met in high school in 2008, in Ridgecrest, California. Keely was a freshman and Shane a junior. They began dating in February 2009 and came to love one another deeply. Their relationship was further solidified when, in November 2009, Keely was diagnosed with cancer for the first time and Shane became a caretaker for Keely. Their journey took them to Iowa where Keely’s father helped see her though completion of her treatments and graduation from Iowa City West High School in 2012. They were married in Gillette, Wyoming on July 19, 2012. Keely was the love of Shane’s life and his best friend. From the beginning of their relationship she was woven into Shane’s heart, mind and soul. Later, they had two sons, Connor and Levi, born in 2013 and 2014, respectively, while Keely attended college to become an RN. They are beautiful souls who have given their parents endless hours of joy and love. The boys were very protective and caring of their “mama” all the way to the end of her life. Keely’s love will live on in both of them. Keely later worked in home health care, hospice, and as a jail nurse for Johnson County Health in Buffalo, Wyoming. Little did we know how this would prepare her for the journey ahead. Keely relapsed with Stage 4 terminal metastatic undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma on June 9, 2017. This brought the family to Denver, Colorado, and the start of a new journey.
For those who knew her, Keely was a unique, loving and beautiful soul who shone her bright light everywhere she went. There was no one who did not notice her love and smile. She gave tirelessly to Shane, her boys and her friends, who went on to become her extended family. She was an outstanding mother, devoting herself to raising the most precious and loving boys. The world has not become darker with her loss.
Keely is survived by her beloved husband, Shane, her two lights, Connor and Levi, parents Kevin Clements (Iowa) and Nancy Mutchler (South Dakota), and siblings Lacey and Tyler Gerving, Khyla Jo Counts, Briana Wilson, and Brendan Clements.
