Kaye H. Bretag, 86, of Ottawa, passed away December 5, 2015 at the Ottawa Pavilion surrounded by his loving family.

Kaye was born on August 1, 1929 in Ottawa to Henry and Lucille (Byrne) Bretag. He graduated from Ottawa Township High School in 1948. Kaye married Joan Penick on June 2, 1951 at St. Columba Church in Ottawa. Kaye served in the Army during the Korean War stationed in Germany. He retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Company after more than 42 years of service. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, Ottawa Elks Lodge and Ottawa Moose Lodge. Kaye enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildrens sporting events and he loved playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Ottawa; four children, Michael (Chrisanne Kuenzel) Bretag, of Wilmette, Danny (Joanie Gayan) Bretag, of Ottawa, Kayla (Pete) Weck III, of Seminole, FL and Julie (Jeffery) Grobe, of Ottawa; 8 grandchildren, Pete Weck IV, Ryan (Catherine) Bretag, Michelle (Steve) Christensen, Steve Weck, Scott Bretag, Jacob Grobe, Kristina Weck, and Jordan Grobe; 8 great-grandchildren, Allison, McKenzie, Steven, Dallas, Isabella, Finnian, Quinn and Faelin; three sisters, Doris Barron of Clearwater, FL, Betty Pandolfi of Ottawa and Margaret Peggy Bellettini of Morris; two brothers, twin brother, Keith (Florence) Bretag of Ottawa and Paul (Mary Ellen) Bretag of Leland NC; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven Bretag; one grandson, Christopher Bretag; and two brothers, James and Gerald Bretag.Pallbearers will be Ryan and Scott Bretag, Pete Weck IV, Steve Weck , and Jacob and Jordan Grobe.Memorials may be directed to St. Columba Church in Ottawa.
