Kay Frances Moose Dean, 71, of Troutman, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

Born on March 24, 1940 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Mack Glenn and Clara Troutman Moose.

She was a member of Mountain Road Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Women’s Sunday school class and WMU (Peggy Byers Circle).

Kay was a 1958 graduate of Troutman High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Western Carolina College (now WCU) and a Master of Arts degree in education from Pembroke State University (now UNCP).

Her professional career included teaching positions with Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Chatham County and Franklin County school systems. She was employed with the Public Schools of Robeson County as a resource teacher and worked for the Department of Exceptional Children (PSRC) as a consultant and diagnostician. She retired from the Mooresville Graded School System in 2000.

On August 21, 1965, she married William Douglas Dean of Franklin County, who died in 2002. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ted Ross Moose, Glenn Carmi Moose and Don Edison Moose and two sisters, Cloyce M. Johnson and Annie Ruth M. Shook.

Survivors include her beloved family of two sons, Brent Douglas Dean of Troutman and Dr. Steven Kyle Dean and his wife, Darla Lynn Harper Dean and sons, Dylan Jesse Dean and Daniel Steven Dean, all of Sumter, SC; one sister, Ada M. Batts of Gaffney, SC; several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of dear friends.
