Katie Lavalette Jones McKinney, 90 of 339 Lansbury Drive, Danville, VA died Thursday, January 7, 2010 in Danville Regional Medical Center. Born March 8, 1919 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Mark Daniel Jones and the late Annie Pruett Jones. She attended the Astor School, Danville Technical Institute and Danville Community College. Mrs. McKinney was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Church and was a beautician for Poteat Hair Stylist. She married Lafayette W. McKinney, Sr. on December 20, 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1991. Mrs. McKinney is survived by four children and their families, Kay M. Moore and husband, Rosser of Danville; Lafayette W. McKinney, Jr. and wife, Vicki of Danville; Sherry DiBagno and husband, Frank of Italy and David McKinney of Washington, DC. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lisa McDowell, Lee Moore, Rob McKinney, Eric McKinney, Sarah Wales and Nathan DiBagno and four great-grandchildren, Wesley Creasy, Houston McDowell, Katelyn McKinney and Alan McKinney. In addition, she is survived by her nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. McKinney was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Reynolds and Marie Rickets and a brother, Carl D. Jones.
