Griswold, CT Kathryn Lee Coutu, 64, beloved wife of James R. Coutu, passed away Thursday April 22, 2021, at Yale-New Haven hospital in New Haven, CT. Kathryn was so brave and selfless during her battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. After sixteen long months, a bone marrow transplant, and several rounds of chemotherapy Kathy passed on her own terms surrounded by and holding hands with her loving family.

She was the daughter of John & Carol (Raborn) Bilheimer, of Waco, Texas. Kathryn was born on May 12, 1956 in Waco, Texas. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida with her family until she started shipping boxes to Griswold, CT to start a life with her husband James in 1984.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her sweet baby daughter Brianna B. Coutu and her parents John & Carol Bilheimer. She is survived by her beloved husband, James R. Coutu, daughter Brittany D. Coutu, son Brock J. Coutu, and daughter-in-law Rebecca A. Wyatt. Kathy also leaves sisters, Julie Davis and her husband John Davis, Krista Sprabary and her husband Eric Sprabary. Kathy was a favorite Auntie to 9 beautiful children; Kolby, Mason, and Blake Mills, Raelyn and Julienne Piper, Lora and Noah Piper, and Lillian and Kendall Wetherell.

Kathy earned a BS degree in Public Relations adapting her skills to a specialized career in the Healthcare field. Kathy’s positions included hospice, office manager, cardiology, medical billing, and surgical coordinator. Even after Kathy retired, she then went back to work ending her working days with Donna Civardi, APRN, in Norwich, CT before her illness.

Separate from her career Kathy stood as a strong role model, leader, wife, mother, sister, aunt, caretaker and confidant to not only her immediate and extended family but to so many others pretty much around the world. A truly honest, poised, sassy, intelligent and good woman through and through, providing the most loving and caring support to all of those that confided in her. Kathy imprinted on so many hearts, and touched lives in the most positive way while she walked this Earth, a true angel. Countless stories from ones who only met her once will say the same.

Kathy loved her football games and was known to have about five TV’s on around the house during the season. Kathy loved to boast about her baby’s accolades and stay up on all the gossip with the children. Kathy also loved talking on the phone and could spend about five hours chatting away with her bestie of 50 years Jane Massey Stewart. For those that knew her, there is so much to say about this wonderful woman but she also cherished her privacy. Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, sacrifice, selflessness, commitment, grace, understanding, faithfulness, and strength. Kathy’s life will continue to be lived out and expressed through all of the ones she touched with her time here on this earth.
