Kathleen Ann Grinold nee Walsh 65, of Canterbury, passed away unexpectedly on July 11, 2017 at The Autumn Lake Healthcare Facility in Cromwell.

Kathleen was born on July 17, 1951 to William and Eva Wash. She grew up in Willimantic and graduated from Windham High School. As a teenager, she worked as a “candy Striper” at Windham Hospital and at Barker’s Department Store, upon graduation she worked as the secretary for the Dean of Students at the University of Connecticut. Kathleen took an early retirement to look after her ailing mother and then her ailing father. She moved to Canterbury in 2000 where in 2003 Kathleen married Barry Thorburn in the Town of Killingly by the famous Mr. Wipple at his Christmas theme park. She then pursued one of her great loves and passions, the raising and breeding Shih-Tzu puppies. Kathleen is survived by her husband Barry; ex-husband Russell; brothers, Michael of Canterbury, William and his wife Kathy of Snellville, GA and their children and grandchildren. Kathleen was preceded in death by her mother Eva followed by her father William.
