Kathleen W. Martin passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2015.

She was born in Winston Salem, NC to Elser and Blanche Weisner.  In 1934, she married her beloved husband of 56 years, Joseph K. Martin.  Kathleen, a 55-year resident of Fort Walton Beach, was active in many community, educational, and charitable organizations – frequently holding positions of leadership.  After raising her children, she enjoyed a career with the Okaloosa County School Board.

It has been said that “Miss Kathleen” was the epitome of a genteel Southern Lady.  Steel Magnolia is also an apt description.  She was strong, self-sufficient, and opinionated, and family and friends knew to never, ever ask her age!  May she serve as an example of how to live a long and gracious life.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, and her sister and brother-in-law Mildred and Woodrow Tuttle.  She is survived by a daughter Jo Kathleen Hutchins, a son Joseph Kirk Martin, Jr. (Vicki); grandchildren Deborah Fisher, Shirley Chapin, Joel Hutchins, Joseph K. Martin, III (Erin), and Bradley J. Martin (Mary); great-grandchildren James Martin and Mary Martin; cousins Peggy Cloninger, and Harding Tuttle (Doris); grand nieces and nephews; and her very dear friend Alice Cunningham.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Hilton Weiner, Karen Hughes, and her Westwood staff for the devotion and kind care given to Kathleen.
