Kathleen (Martin) Klender passed on June 4, 2020 after a short illness which she fought with fierce bravery. Kathie was born June 2, 1943 to Victor and Pauline (VanHaaren) Martin, attended St. Boniface Catholic School and graduated in 1961 from St. James High School.  Her favorite memory was singing in the St. James choir with her childhood friends.  Kathie met and married the love of her life, Gary, in 1964 embarking on an adventurous and loving journey through their 54 years of marriage. Kathie was a passionate gardener, priding herself on the beautiful roses she would grow.  She loved camping, nature walks and travel, especially in the U.P. where her fondest of memories occurred.  Basically, she loved anything that allowed her to spend time with her family.

Kathie was an indulgent full time mother, first to volunteer as a field trip chaperone, Girl Scout leader, backstage mother at Kim and Kiersten’s yearly dance recitals and especially as head cheerleader and chauffeur for her girls many extracurricular activities. She also worked tirelessly as an Election Inspection Chairperson for Bangor Township for over 20 years.

Predeceasing Kathie was her soulmate and husband Gary who has been patiently waiting for her since last May.

Kathie is survived by her daughters Kim and Kiersten (Todd), grandsons Matthew and Jacob, step grandchildren Benjamin, Noah, Madison and Anthony, brother and sister-in-law Michael Martin and Joyce Martin, cousin Shirley, Uncle Pete and Aunt Sue and her Jane, as well as many nieces and nephews and so many friends who knew and loved her.

Kathie’s family would like to thank Covenant VNA Hospice, especially Kayla, Michael, Megan and Denise for their compassionate care and for going the extra mile for the family. Also, the Covenant Infusion Center and Oncology Department with special thanks to Dr. Tobin and her nurse Tricia, and the countless professionals who treated Kathie not only medically but with kindness and dignity.

At the request of Kathie and her family, cremation has taken place.
