Kathleen A. Fearns, 87, of Holiday City South section of Berkeley Twp., NJ, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at home. Born in Hawthorne, NJ, she lived in Little Falls, NJ before moving to Berkeley Twp. in 1986. Kathleen was owner of Fearns’ Confectionary & Deli in Hawthorne, NJ.
She later worked as a Claims Adjuster for Prudential, Holmdel, NJ. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Berkeley Twp., where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the church’s choir, the Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary, where she served as President. Kathleen was also a volunteer at Community Medical Center, Toms River. She was predeceased by her husband, George Fearns, in 1995, her parents James and Emma Martin and her sister Margaret Hurley.
Kathleen is survived by her five children: John “Kip” Fearns and his wife Mary Lou of North Haledon, NJ, Mary Degelman and her husband Scott Degelman of West Milford, NJ, Kathleen Fearns Smagula and her husband Michael Smagula of Plainsboro, NJ, Jane Fearns Pinkham and her husband Jeff of Clark, NJ, Donna Fearns Ward and her husband Jack of Medford Lakes, NJ; three brothers: James, John and Richard Martin; two sisters: Mary “May” Dick and Alice Warren; fourteen grandchildren: Sarah, John, Colleen, Courtney, George, Stephen, Andrew, Scott, Brittany, Timothy, Shannon, Jeffrey, Christy, Kelsey; five great grandchildren: Lily, Connor, Henry, Sophia, Lauren and two on the way.
