Katherine “Kay” Fortino of Port St.Lucie, FL, passed away on March 28, 2021. She was the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Mastranardo) Fortino.
Kay married Joseph “Joe” Zappia, the love of her life, on May 9, 1953. They celebrated 57 happy years of marriage, filled with memories of travel and special times with family and friends.
Kay was a people person who was known for her amazing culinary skills. She hosted endless family and friend gatherings until her last days. Many of her happiest moments were in her kitchen where she whipped up delicious food and amazing desserts for all those around her to enjoy.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember her loving ways, playing dominoes, family dinners, and most importantly her giant hugs that lasted from a visit to visit. She enjoyed her time in her Florida home as well as her time at the farm and the Jersey Shore.
Her door was forever open and she always had a warm meal to share with whoever dropped by.
Kay will be missed and thought of fondly every day by her friends and family. We will see her in all the familiar places and she will remain a part of our lives. We are deeply comforted knowing that she is with Joe.
Kay is predeceased by her husband Joseph L. Zappia, Sr., son Anthony Zappia and siblings Rose Pierantozzi, Vincent, Peter, and Frank Fortino. Kay is survived by her daughter Mia Porter and husband Doug; son Joseph Zappia and partner Sylvia Dailey, granddaughter Sarah (Porter) Barsky and grandsons Joseph Zappia, Derek Porter, Anthony, Justin, and Samuel Zappia, and five great-grandchildren.
