Katherine Setzer Barrett Buchanan, 76, of Dry Fork, VA died Sunday, January 31, 2010 in Danville Regional Medical Center after a valiant battle with breast cancer. Born June 9, 1933 in Claremont, NC, she was the daughter of the late Blakie Hawn Setzer and the late Hoyle Columbus Setzer. She graduated from Claremont High School in 1951 and moved to Washington, DC to work in finger printing for the FBI. She later owned and operated Glen-Mar Beauty Salon in Virginia Beach for fifteen years and then worked for J. C. Penney Hair Salon in Danville. She was an avid gardener and an avid reader. She loved quilt making and traveling. She was a member of the African Violet Society, The Master Gardeners and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Dry Fork Volunteer Fire Department. She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Hottenstein and husband, Rick of Chesapeake, VA, Brenda West of Virginia Beach and Susan Mathena and husband, Tommy of Danville; a sister, Mae Killian and husband, Worth of Hickory, NC, her brothers, George Setzer of Maiden, NC and H. C. “Junior” Setzer of Claremont, NC, her sister-in-law, Lillian Setzer of Claremont, NC and her brother-in-law, Charles Reed of Conover, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer Barrett Powell, Todd West, Grant West, Emily Hottenstein, Lauren Mathena and John Mathena, and her great-grandchildren, Cierra Barrett, Josh Powell, Zachary Powell, Owen Hottenstein and Cameron West and by a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Fish and Dot Reed, and two brothers, Rhyne Setzer and Ned Setzer.
