Katherine (Kunika) Sakaguchi, 92, of Brighton, passed away November 16, 2012 in Denver. She was born June 18, 1920 in North Platte, NE to Takihiko and Takeyo (Shiroyama) Miyoshi.
Katherine was raised on a farm in Hershey, NE but has lived in Brighton for the majority of her life. She worked as a Deputy Clerk for Adams County Government for many years and retired in 1990. She was a member of the Brighton Nisei Women’s Club.
In her free time, Katherine enjoyed playing Bridge and taking trips to the mountains. She was loving mother, grandmother and “Obachan” (great-grandmother) and she will be greatly missed.
Katherine is survived by her children, Joyce (Richard) Phillips of Brighton and Robert (Deborah) Sakaguchi of Broomfield; sisters, Alice Matsutani of North Platte, NE, Sara (Sam) Terasaki and Patricia (Sam) Hatasaka, both of Denver; three grandchildren, Tracy Sakaguchi of Arvada, Tammy (Gerald) Sellers of Broomfield and Kristen (Brian) Filizetti of Salt Lake City; seven great-grandchildren, Joy, Ty, Deegan, Paige, logan, Kayla and Kessa. Other survivors include many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by both parents, her husband, Kyosuke, in 1994 and four brothers, Alfred, Edward, Richard and Miles.
