Katherin Marie (Wood) Utberg, the daughter of Francis Lucile (Freed) and Dudley Leroy Wood, was born November 3, 1944 in Jewell County, Kansas. She departed this life on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Franklin Care & Rehabilitation Center in Franklin, Nebraska at the at of 72 years, 7 months and 10 days.

​Katherin received her formal education attending the Windy Point one-room school house, the Esbon High School and then graduated from the Red Cloud High School. She had attended the Assembly of God Church. Katherin pursued a number of jobs including working at the Royal Cafe and the Sprague Nursing Home both in Red Cloud. She additionally was employed for a period of time at the Smith Center nursing home and then worked as a cook with the Smith County Memorial Hospital.  She was united in marriage with Kenn Utberg on December 22, 1979 at Red Cloud, Nebraska.  They resided for a number of years at Clearwater, Florida.  He preceded her in death.

​She later returned to her home area and for the past several years Katherin has made Franklin her home. Her personality was pervaded by her sweet and patient nature.  She was never one to complain and always enjoyed the company of her family and friends.  Throughout her life, although she could not run or sing, Katherin is now running on streets of gold and singing with the angels.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

​Left to treasure her memory are her sisters, Beulah Hinman of Fowler, Colorado and Frances Peterson and husband, Dennis, of Yoder, Kansas; two brothers, Kenneth Wood and wife, Jeanie, of Hastings, Nebraska and Albert Wood and wife, Dorothy, of Red Cloud.  Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
