Karol S. Shoemate, 83, of Jacksonville and formerly of Greenbush, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born March 17, 1935, in Greenbush, IL, the daughter of Bernard and Naomi Shepherd Smith.
She married Everett “Bruce” Shoemate on Sept. 5, 1954, in Greenbush, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 2000.
She is survived by her three daughters, Teresa Barber of Jacksonville, Wendy Jeralds (John Russell) of Marion, and Marla Jarmer of Danville; five grandchildren, Adam Calero of Chicago, Elizabeth Calero of Normal, Rachel Calero of Marion, and Andrew Jarmer and Chloe Jarmer, both of Springfield; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and June Calero, both of Chicago; two sisters, Brenda Shinn and Maxine Centeno, both of Galesburg; and one brother, Terry Smith. She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald “Tony” Smith.
Mrs. Shoemate was a graduate of Avon High School and a member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville. She enjoyed creative writing, camping, and sewing, and proudly made her three daughters’ wedding dresses. She loved her poodle, Nicki, and especially loved her grandkids and great-grandkids.
