Karl Dean Holmes, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 12, 2020 in the love and comfort of his family. Karl was born on February 7, 1933, in Elkhart to the late Lloyd and Ada (Shank) Holmes. After graduating from Elkhart High School in 1950, he attended Ball State University until he was inducted in the U.S Army during the Korean War from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. He then attended and graduated from Tri-State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree and began a satisfying and long career in the insurance industry. He retired from Liberty Mutual as an adjuster.
He reunited, after 50 years, with his high school sweetheart, JoAnne M. Johnson. Karl & JoAnne were married on July 31, 2003 in Angola. Karl lived life fully and gratefully. He was a collector of many things and enjoyed going to auctions and antique shops in the area. He was a member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge 325 in Bristol and Scottish Rite. Most of all, Karl enjoyed spending time with his loving wife and family,
Karl leaves behind children, Jeff (Cindy) Holmes, Douglas Holmes, Tina Holmes, Marie Holmes-Smith (Greg Larsen) and Christy Hall. As well as his grandchildren; Ben (Sarah) Holmes, Brittany (Collin) Madding, Kelly Holmes, Jaqueline Holmes, Elizabeth (Justin) Ennenga, Christian (Jamie) Holmes, Wil (Liz) Smith, April (Karl) Miller, Mandy Hall, and Colton (Cortney) Hall. Along with great-grandchildren; Mabel, Henry, Eldon, Kynlee, Sam, Brady, Alexis, Beau, Geneveve, Oliver, Sophia, Liam, Kameron, Kendall, Xadyn & Ransym.
In addition to his parents, sons, Steven Holmes, Scott Holmes, Kirk Johnson and Mark Johnson, brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Nancy Holmes and his former wife, Joanne M. (White) Holmes, preceded Karl in death.
