Karen Sons, 75, of Tonica died on Wednesday morning, Jan. 16, 2019, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Mrs. Sons was born on August 16, 1943, in Spring Valley to George and Bertha (Appel) Cabal.
She was a graduate of Tonica High School Class of 1961. Until her retirement, she worked as a banquet server at Starved Rock Lodge. She married Kenneth R. Sons on Sept. 15, 1962, at St. John the Baptist Church in Lostant. She was a member of Holy Family church, Tonica American Legion Auxiliary, a former member of the Tonica Fire Department Firettes, and a life-long Cub Fan.
She is survived by her husband, 2 daughters, Brenda (Randy) Burkart, of Peru, and Tammi (Michael) Martyn, of Oglesby, one son, Anthony (Lisa) Sons, of Wenona, 7 grandchildren: Brett and Britney Burkart, Jordan, Shawn, and Paige Sons, and Tyler and Taylor Martyn, and one brother, Donald (Audrey) Cabal, of Streator.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
