K. Walker Lindsay Lt. Col. K. Walker Lindsay, USAF (Ret), 85, of Harbert, Michigan, died Tuesday morning, May 29, 2007, at his home with his family by his side.Walker was born January 26, 1922 in Newton, Massachusetts to Carl and Mary (Erving) Lindsay. His family moved to Andover, MA, where he attended Andover Academy at the same time as George Bush Sr. He was always involved in sports, and had a batting average of .386 which was the highest batting average for the American Legion Baseball team.After high school, Walker went to California and was working at the Boeing Aircraft factory when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He returned home to get his parent’s permission to enlist in the Army Air Corp.

He was assigned as an engineer top turret gunner on a B-17 Bomber and flew 16 missions, including the Raid On Schweinfurt, before being shot down on his 17th mission and captured by the Germans. Walker was a POW in Stalag 17B for one and half years before being liberated near wars end by Patton’s 3rd Army. While serving his country, he received many awards, including the Bronze Star, Air Metal with two Oakleaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart. With the war over, he took advantage of the G.I. Bill and attended and graduated from Michigan State College in 1950. It was there that he met and married his wife of 59 years, Muriel “Mickey” Morphett. After graduation he re enlisted in the Air Force, serving in Korea and Vietnam, and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring. Walker then became a realtor for ten years, before finally retiring from the work force to enjoy his favorite past times; golf and gardening.

He was a member of the Harbert Community Church and the Chikaming Country Club.Walker is survived by his wife Mickey; sons, John Lindsay of Bridgman, Robert (Julie) Lindsay of Kingwood, Texas, and Ronald Lindsay of St. Joseph, Michigan; grandsons, Carl Lindsay of Houston, TX. and Clayton Lindsay of Lubbock, TX; granddaughter, Natasha Lindsay of St. Joseph; sisters, Caryl Brehm and Marilou Rogers, both of Carlsbad, CA.; and a brother, Carl of Santa Rosa, CA. Walker was preceded in death by his brother, John.
