June Therese Siegmund, 87, South Bend, IN, died at 5:45 pm Monday, August 15, 2005 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend surrounded by family.
June was born on June 1, 1918 in Chicago, IL to Stanley and Sophie (Ciszewski) Zientarski. She was the first born of five children. As a very young child she moved with her parents to New Buffalo, MI, where she attended St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, and New Buffalo Schools. She attended Hardin-Simmons University in Texas and Julliard School of Music in New York City. She studied violin, piano, organ and voice. During her life she sang professionally, and established and directed many choirs in several parishes in Michigan and Florida.
On January 11, 1942 she married Donald Anthony Siegmund, and during World War II was employed by Michigan Bell as Supervisor and Chief Operator. She was also employed by the Guidance Office of New Buffalo High School.
June was a member of the People of Praise Charismatic Community, Our Lady Queen of Peace Prayer Community, and former member of the choir at Christ the King Parish, and of late a member of Sacred Heart Parish, where she was active in the lay ministry in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart as Lector and Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, Sacristan and Wedding Coordinator.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Rev. Mr. Raymond (Gloria) Zientarski, Rev. Fr. Walter Zientarski, Gerald John Zientarski, and sister Betty Ann Zientarski. June was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald, of 61 years, in March of 2003.
Although she was not blessed with children, she is survived by nieces, Margaret (Jon) Putzke, Carol Reynolds, Bernadette (Rick) Reitz, Angela (Edwin) Trainor, Lauren (Darrell) Carney, nephews, Robert (Colleen) Zientarski, John (Stacy) Zientarski, William (Nancy) Zientarski, and Paul Zientarski, twenty-eight great-nieces and nephews and four great-great-nieces and nephews, whom she loved deeply and prayed for constantly. One niece, Frances (Michael) Bredehoeft, also preceded her in death.
