June Grace Probasco, 84, died Tuesday, April 29, at Chariton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Chariton. June was born to Ruth Florence Hagg and Paul S. Troutman on June 29, 1929, in rural Chariton. She graduated from Chariton Community High School. She married James David Probasco, Aug. 23, 1952, in Chariton. Three children were born to the couple – David, James Jay and Juli. June retired as secretary at Iowa’s Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning office in Des Moines. Prior, she worked as a secretary at Camp Dodge in Johnston and Hy-Vee Food Stores in Chariton. She raised American saddle horses and owned June’s Country Antiques in Melrose, before and after her retirement. She also participated in antique shows across Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather Levi Boston; husband, James; and son, James Jay. June is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Gerry Probasco of rural Chariton; daughter and son-in-law, Juli Probasco-Sowers and Tom Sowers of Perry; sisters Pauline Spitznagel and Ruthie Smith of Madison, Wis.; and 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
