Julian Oscar Gomez was born in Castro Valley, California on August 27, 1997 and lived in San
Leandro with his family. He was a graduate of San Leandro High School and Chabot College,
and was a student at Cal State East Bay, working towards a psychology degree, with the goal of
becoming a counselor one day.
Julian passed away unexpectedly on the morning of November 19, 2020. He is survived by his
father Oscar, mother Jean, sister Paula, and grandmother Erlinda. He also leaves behind aunts,
uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends.
As a student, Julian was very dedicated in his academics and extracurricular activities. He was
a hard worker and determined student, able to overcome whatever challenges were thrown his
way. He always found a way to persevere no matter how tough the going may have seemed.
Julian loved to make friends, and his joyous spirit and amiable nature made it easy for everyone
to connect with him. He was a peer mentor at Chabot and East Bay, the secretary of the
International Club, vice president of the Ukulele Club and a member of several other campus
clubs. Julian was a positive light who encouraged and supported his classmates and friends.
Outside of school, Julian had an infectious joy for the passions in his life. He was a big Golden
State Warriors fan and bonded with many friends and family over sports and his knowledge of
all things basketball. He was a talented musician, and played the guitar, bass and ukulele. He
CCD assistant for many years. Just this year, Julian started his own YouTube channel, making
song covers and virtual collaborations with friends, family and fellow musicians.
To know Julian was to know pure love, kindness and determination. He lit up the room
whenever he was around. He always made time for everyone in his life, and he knew how to
make you feel genuinely loved. He loved to be around his family and friends, and always made
sure that everyone felt included and accepted.
Though our time with him was short, Julian made an incredible impact on our lives. We were
blessed by his presence and will never forget the lessons he effortlessly left us with — to live life
to the fullest with no regrets. He will be immensely missed, but will forever live on in our hearts.
