Julia M. Smith, age 85 of Sanford, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at her residence. The daughter of the late John W. and Minnie E. (Fuller) Drake was born on January 29, 1932 in Midland where she was raised and educated. On October 22, 1952, she married Ted H. Smith in Midland. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1993 after 41 years of marriage. Julia worked as a house keeper for many years. She enjoyed Gardening, cooking, knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading her bible, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.
Left to cherish Julia’s memory are her sons, Ted (Kelly) Smith of Midland, Dan (Norma) Smith of Sanford; daughters, Patricia Riggie of Sanford, Peggy (Paul) Good of Sanford, Catherine Wetherell of Sanford; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and brother Charles Drake. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Gardella; brothers, Walter, Robert, Lawrence and John Drake; sisters, Mary McLean, Clara Drake, Josephine Norris, Joan Marr, and grandchild, Trevor Gamache.
