Juel C. Hollada, 94, of Virginia, IL and formerly of Galatia, IL and Miami, FL died Thursday, December 9, 2010 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, IL.

He was born January 26, 1916 in Stoddard County, MO; the son of Beecher and Mae Behymer Hollada. He married Geneva A. Manker on May 9, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, MO and she preceded him in death on August 10, 1998.

He is survived by a son, Dr. Jack Hollada (wife, Gerri) of Virginia; three grandchildren, Jeanna Excell (husband, Mike) of Southampton, England, Nina Hollada (husband, Brian Walker) of Springfield, and Serena Crowley (husband, Airman John) of Biloxi, MS; three great grandchildren, Savannah Cooksey, Mitchell Hollada, and Marcus Walker; and his companion, Marguerite Gaines of Woodson.

Mr. Hollada served with the US Army during WW II participating in the Algeria French Moroccan, Tunisian Normandy, Northern France Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central European Theaters. He was awarded one silver and two bronze battle stars for his service.

Upon returning to the US, he was trained as a barber and practiced that trade for over 40 years. In his spare time he became an avid and talented golfer. He was formerly active in Masonic and veterans organizations and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Virginia.
