Judy Boyd Dorton, 71, of Chester passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024. She was born on May 26, 1952, in Pennington Gap, Virginia to the late Emmajean Boyd and Ted Lowe Boyd and was preceded in death by her son, Joseph P. Dorton; brothers, Glen Boyd and Ted Boyd Jr; and sister, Tammy Boyd. Judy was a devoted member of the Derby Methodist Church and the Harrowgate Baptist Church. Immediately after high school, she started her career as a legal secretary for attorney Raymond Shannon in Appalachia, Virginia. In 1985, she started working for attorneys Paige and Thomas Cheely in Colonial Heights, Virginia until retiring in 2019.
