After a prolonged illness, Judy Laney passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 71, with her family by her side.

She was born in Portland, Ore., to George and Irene (Ashenbrenner) Brown and moved to Anchorage, Alaska, with her family in 1951. She graduated from East Anchorage High School in 1967, and attended Southern Oregon College. Judy retired from the State of Alaska, The Department of Corrections in 1997. She enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. in her motorhome with her husband Tom Laney until his passing in 2009.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Lissa (Jay) Wright; and grandsons, Jack and Kyle Wright; sister, Chris (Don) Soden; niece, Deanna (Lance) Dickey; former husband and best friend, Robert Levar; niece, Aimee Browne; nephew, Josh Browne; as well as grandnephews, Connor and Tanner Dickey; and many other cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents; and her brother, Jim.

Judy will be remembered for her love of flowers – her summer baskets were her pride and joy – and building a cabin at Big Lake, a legacy of love she left to her family.
