Judith Marlene Jacobs, 69, of Bloomington and formerly of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday July 10, 2012 at the IU Health Hospice House. Judith was born in Detroit, MI and was the daughter of Maurice and Sylvia Blumenthal. She graduated from Henry Ford High School and completed 4 years at Wayne State University where she earned a teaching degree. She earned her master’s degree from Indiana University with a specialization in Language Arts.
Judith married Marshall Jacobs on June 14, 1964. She moved to Indiana and taught school for 46 years mostly first grade at Stalker Elementary in Bedford, IN. She retired from teaching in 2008. Judith and Marshall moved to Bloomington in August 2009. In addition to her teaching career, Judith (and Marshall) were active members of Little Theatre of Bedford.
Judith was an avid gardener and regularly walked 3 or 4 miles a day. She also enjoyed reading and cooking. Judith touched the lives of many, many school children in Lawrence County and has a long list of dedicated friends in the community. She will be long remembered & sorrowfully missed. She (and Marshall) were members of Congregation Beth Shalom. She served on the Board of Directors on more than one occasion and was president of the Congregation for one 3 year term. Judith was diagnosed with Brain Cancer in September 2011.
She battled valiantly until she succumbed to complications of the cancer resulting in pneumonia. Judith is survived by her only sibling, Elaine Horowitz of Huntington Woods, MI, her brother-in-law Marvin Horowitz and two nephews Ethan and Aaron Horowitz. Her husband of 48 years, Marshall Jacobs, also survives.
