Judith Beckner Hatley, 83, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Elkhart General Hospital. Judith was born on September 3, 1938, in Danville, Virginia, to the late Leonard Atwell Beckner and Evelyn Byrd (Clark) Beckner. She married her high school sweetheart, Bobby G. Hatley, on June 11, 1961, in Danville. Bob preceded her in death on February 22, 2016, in South Bend. Judith was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Elizabeth B. Pleasant and Katherine B. Cline. Judith is survived by her children, son, Mark R. (Catherine) Hatley and daughter, Anne H. (Mark) Reverman. In addition, she is survived by three loving grandchildren, whom she adored: Taylor, Alexander, and Nicholas Reverman; several nieces and nephews.

Judith was a 1957 graduate of Dan River High School in Danville, Virginia, and received her B.A. in elementary education from Longwood College (University) in Farmville, Virginia, in 1961. She taught at Schoolfield Elementary School in Danville, Virginia.

A lifelong Episcopalian, Judith was a member of St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church in Bristol.  She and Bob were married at Christ Episcopal Church in Glenwood, Virginia, where she served as a member of the altar guild, ECW, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school. She and Bob were also active members of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Spartanburg, SC, and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Henderson, NC, while residing in those areas.

Judith was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She volunteered as a tutor with the SOAR program at Concord Ox Bow Elementary School for many years.  Her home was always the “go-to” place for the neighborhood children in Danville, where everyone called her Aunt Judy. Judith was an avid reader, an amazing cook, and most importantly, loved her family.  Her laughter, honesty, and wit will be dearly missed.
